Dr. Mohamed Abdelgadir
Dr. Mohamed Abdelgadir served more than 20 years until January 2026 at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), where he was Country Director for Egypt and Head of the Multi-Country Office for the Near East, North Africa, and Europe. He is an agricultural economist with over 30 years of experience in international development, rural transformation, and policy design.
In this capacity, he managed multi-million-dollar portfolios across Bosnia, Jordan, Iraq, Uzbekistan, and Yemen, leading the design of country strategies and supervising over 27 rural development projects. He contributed to advancing climate-smart agriculture, rural resilience, and sustainable livelihoods across diverse regions. His work focused on strengthening resilience, expanding access to markets and financial services, and promoting inclusive growth for poor rural communities.
Before joining IFAD, Dr. Abdelgader worked at the FAO Regional Office in Cairo, contributing to agricultural trade, market access, and food safety policies in the Near East. Earlier in Sudan, he held leadership positions as Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute at the National Research Center, Director of Finance and Investment for the Gezira Scheme, and faculty member at the University of Gezira.
